COVID 19 Catch Up Premium

In June, a £1 billion fund for education was announced by the government.  Further guidance has now been released (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-catch-up-premium) showing that the money is split between a catch-up premium and a national tutoring scheme.

The catch-up premium is funded on a per pupil basis at £80 per pupil. This will be based on the previous year’s census which means St Laurence will be in receipt of £7440 (93 x £80). To support schools to make the best use of this funding, the Education Endowment Foundation has published a support guide for schools with evidence-based approaches to catch up for all students. We have used this to guide our planning.

Spending:

At St Laurence, this money will be used to:

  • Support excellent teaching through focused training developing pupil assessment and feedback so we can identify where children are in their learning and support them from their starting points.
  • Give targeted support through structured interventions this will include pupils who are identified as needing “catch up” in their learning.
  • Support children with social and emotional needs by providing nurturing spaces and small group interventions. Support families by providing technology to use at home.

Impact:

We will monitor and evaluate the impact of our use of the Catch-up premium at regular points throughout the year as part of our monitoring schedule. This will be reported to Governors through our Curriculum Learning and Teaching Committee.
